Please note, that the selected part has a PROTECTING DIODE embedded, which protects the Arduino output from damage due to reverse currents when switching off the relay. Furthermore this relay has a magentic shielding. There are other and probably cheaper Reed Switches available in SIP package, which would fit mechanically and technically, but only use a replacement, if it has an embedded protection diode and magnetic shielding. |

All selected displays have the same pinout and the same part dimension of 19 x 12,7 x 8mm. The cheapest display B) is from Ebay (22pcs for 5,75€ incl. Shipping!). This display has a sligthly larger segment size of 0,56 inch, which is 0,06inch higher than the other two. According to S&T Geotronics this will fit either. The Kingbright part C) is a well known brand, but this display is not so bright as A) or D) (10mcd vs. 82Mcd/220mcd). Changing the current resistor on the MAX7219 might help to increase the brightness to a max… COLOR! Green is not Green! Due to a different wavelength, the green color is quite different for these displays. Only Display A and Display D have a pure green color (wavelength = 525nm/515nm), whereas B) and C) have a kind of yellow-green color (wavelength 570nm). Here is a comparison of Display A, B and C SO BE CAREFUL AND LOOK FOR A DISPLAY WITH A PROPER COLOR! The wavelength should be in the range of 515...530nm If you can‘t find out the wavelength, then have a look at the „Forward voltage“ (Vf) of the display. Due to a different material used to generate the color (Pure Green: InGaN vs. Yellow-Green GaP), Pure Green Displays have a forward voltage of approx. 3.0V whereas the (Yellow-)Green displays have a forward voltage of 2.0-2.2V. |
